'This panel discussion invites you to burst the Deaf Arts bubble, aiming to challenge our perceptions of deaf art. We intend to demonstrate how deaf artists are breaking conventional rules and creating art that communicates with everyone, transcending sound and traditional art forms.
Deaf art has often been confined by audism and oppression, yet we believe it encompasses much more. Shifting our focus away from prevalent topics like access and inclusion, we celebrate the innovative and thrilling art created by deaf artists. These pioneers are using their creativity to forge spaces where everyone can feel included in the art world.
We aim to showcase how we, whether artists or not, can transform art. Utilising new technologies and inventive methods, these artists produce work that surprises and initiates fresh dialogues. Our discussion will explore the diversity and richness of deaf art, illustrating its potential to challenge our standard expectations.
Furthermore, this discussion will delve into how deaf art is pioneering new approaches to art itself. It invites us to reconsider our established notions and to embrace new opportunities. We will highlight the leading role of deaf artists in inspiring us to view art through different lenses. Through this exploration, we aspire to envision a future where deaf art is celebrated for its innovation and its power to provoke thought.
This talk is not about providing all the answers but rather to begin posing more questions about art. We aim to welcome the unknown and celebrate the pursuit of new ideas, leaving you intrigued and eager to learn more about the boundless possibilities of art.
